Dear MSMHS Family and Community,

It is with great excitement that we begin our fifth school year for the graduating classes of 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 at the Marine Science Magnet High School. This school year will mark our first full accredidation visit from the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) in March 2016.

Our core values, beliefs, and learning expectations are saturated throughout the school community. Our MSMHS Family consists of a group of a teachers, parents, and students that are committed to ensuring that MSMHS is a safe, respectful, and nuturing environment. Our MSMHS professional learning community is committed to 21st century instruction that promotes effort and ensures academic rigor through a challenging curriculum responsive to the diverse interests of a broad spectrum of students. Furthermore, MSMHS collaborates with all stakeholders to prepare students for higher education and/or marine-related employment by supporting the personal, academic and career goals of every student. We believe that effort creates ability and that all students will succeed. We provide students with the opportunities to develop the skills and character needed to be active and responsible citizens in a global community.

We truly believe that the educational responsibility and success of all students is shared amongst the school leaders, teachers, parents, students, and community. Ongoing and continuous communication between home and school concerning the student’s success is essential for each student's success at MSMHS. Parents are encouraged to check their child’s PowerSchool regularly. Moreover, we welcome home to school communication to discuss student progress. These discussions may be scheduled throughout the year at the request of parents or teachers at a mutually agreed upon time. Communication opportunities may include telephone conversations, team meetings, individual parent-teacher meetings, advisor updates, e-mails, etc.

Marine Science Magnet High School has a wealth of wonderful resources and professionals who are eager to assist students in achieving their educational goals. For our virtual visitors, we welcome you to peruse throughout our website which contains a plethora of information about our school and its programs.

On behalf of the entire Marine Science Magnet High School Family, we look forward to making this a successful school year for all stakeholders. As we begin our third school year, we are committed to making Marine Science Magnet High School the best high school in the World! MSMHS is a great place to learn, grow, and succeed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nicholas J. Spera
